Isolation Is Terminal

You know that movie where the hero works alone, saves the day, then rides off by himself? No need for help from friends. Just one winning adventure after another. Yeah, that’s called fiction. It’s pure myth.

Reality tells a different story. In real life it’s the team that saves the day. It’s the tribe – the band of brothers – that kill the bad guys and save the village. Whether on the frontier or the battlefield, when a man gets isolated from the group, he’s easy prey.

Your daily life is no different. Enemies like depression, loneliness, and addiction want to get you isolated so they can attack when you’re alone.

Every man needs a tribe to help him cover his blind spots. Not just a group of drinking or golfing buddies whose lives are in disarray, but rather men whose lives you want to emulate. Men who have successfully gone through your stage of life and can encourage and push you to do better.

There is immense danger in believing the fantasy that you’ve got it all under control by yourself. You don’t. Drop the Lone Ranger act and find a tribe in which you can confide.
